Substrate Inhibition Kinetics of Phenol Degradation by Pseudomonas Aeruginosa (ncim 2074)
نویسندگان
چکیده
The biodegradation of phenol by Pseudomonas aeruginosa (NCIM 2074) was carried out in a batch system and the optimum conditions were determined. At an optimum pH 7, temperature 32°C, agitation speed 160 rpm, carbon source (glucose) 0.5 g/l, nitrogen source (ammonium chloride) 0.2 g/l, metal ion concentration (Zn) 0.02 g/l the percentage of phenol degradation was 80.45%. Phenol had a strong inhibitor effect on the microbial growth and Haldane model was used to describe the substrate inhibition. Model parameters were estimated by non-linear regression analysis using Force 2.0 software. The values of the parameters obtained were μ max = 0.306 h; K S = 108.87 mg/l and K I = 567.84 mg/l.

OPTIMIZATION OF PHENOL DEGRADATION FROM Pseudomonas aeruginosa (NCIM 2074) USING RESPONSE SURFACE METHODOLOGY
In the present investigation, Pseudomonas aeruginosa (NCIM 2074) which can utilize phenol as a sole source of carbon and energy was selected for the degradation of phenol. Experiments were made as a function of carbon source (glucose), inorganic nitrogen (ammonium chloride) and metal ion concentration (zinc ion). In this work, a 23full factorial Central Composite Design was employed combining w...

Phenolic compounds are hazardous pollutants that are toxic relatively at low concentrations. Accumulation of phenol creates toxicity both for flora and fauna. Because of its toxicity, there is a need to decontaminate the phenol-laden soils. Hence, bioremediation is a very useful alternative to conventional clean-up methods. the aim of this work was to study the effect of two variables – tempera...
متن کاملDegradation kinetics and pathway of phenol by Pseudomonas and Bacillus species
This article elucidates that strain Pseudomonas aeruginosa (IES-Ps-1) is a versatile toxic organic compound degrader. With the degradation of malathion and cypermethrin (studied by other researchers previously), this strain was able to degrade phenol. Two other indigenous soil flora (i.e., Pseudomonas sp. (IES-S) and Bacillus subtilis (IES-B)) were also found to be potential phenol degraders. P...
متن کاملKinetics Modelling of the Biodegradation of Benzene, Toluene and Phenol as Single Substrate and Mixed Substrate by Using Pseudomonas putida
In the present work, kinetics of the biodegradation of benzene, toluene and phenol by using a pure culture of Pseudomonas putida (MTCC 1194) was determined by measuring the specific growth rate and degradation rate with substrate concentration as a function of time in a batch reactor. In general, the degradation rate of benzene, toluene and phenol increased with the increase in the initial subs...

Biodegradation of phenol in the presence of glucose as a supplementary substrate was investigated with mixed microbial consortium isolated from waste effluent of coke-steel factory. Batch experiments were carried out at room temperature and pH value of 7. Initial phenol and glucose concentrations were in the range of 25-1000 mg/l and 500-3000 mg/l, respectively. In a dual substrates system the ...
